Biography
জীবনী

Born on November 20, 1965, as the eldest son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman carries in his veins the very history of Bangladesh’s struggle for democracy. He lost his father to assassination at the age of fifteen, endured eighteen months of imprisonment and torture, and spent seventeen years in exile — yet never once wavered in his commitment to the democratic aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.
From the grassroots of Gabtali, Bogra, where he began his political journey in 1988, to the corridors of international advocacy in London, Tarique Rahman has built a life defined by sacrifice and service. His 31-point reform proposal envisions a Bangladesh governed by institutional integrity, judicial independence, and inclusive economic growth.
On December 25, 2025, he returned home after seventeen years of exile to lead the nation toward a new democratic era. Five days later, his mother Begum Khaleda Zia passed away. On January 9, 2026, he assumed the chairmanship of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, carrying forward the legacy of both his parents.
